What is a Honeypot Channel?

Guide for server administrators configuring Honeybot.

Back to settings

A Honeypot Channel is a trap channel used by RamBot Automod to catch spam bots and malicious accounts.

Real members should not post there. If a bot or scam account does, Ram Bot can automatically punish them based on your server settings — for example banning the account.

Why randomize the channel name?

Honeybot can rename the honeypot on a weekly or monthly schedule. Random innocent-looking names make it harder for raid bots to skip a channel they have blocklisted.

Channel ID rotation

You can also recreate the channel with a new ID so bots cannot rely on a saved channel ID. Use the dashboard controls on the AutoMod → Honeybot section when your server is ready for a fresh trap channel.

Setup checklist

  1. Enable the Ram AutoMod plugin on your server.
  2. Open AutoMod → Honeybot and create or pick a honeypot channel.
  3. Hide the channel from @everyone — only Ram Bot needs to see it.
  4. Choose an action (ban recommended for raid bots) and optional alert channel.
  5. Turn on name rotation if your server is frequently targeted.
Tip: Link staff to this guide from your mod handbook. The honeypot only works when members know not to post in it.
